Germanium is a metalloid element from the periodic table. It has a metallic silver-gray color and appears brittle at room temperature. Germanium is used in fiber-optic cables, transistors and solar cells, as well as high-speed electronics and infrared optics. It is also used as a doping agent in semiconductors, making them more efficient.
